Hvar – in Greek Pharos – lighthouse

Home Hvar – in Greek Pharos – lighthouse

From the Greek collonisation was an important strategic and nautical centre and today it is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the world, with plenty of sun, as untouched nature, fragrances of lavender, olives and wine.

Today’s name of the island has Greek origins (in Greek Pharos – lighthouse), the Romans formed the name Pharia, Dalmatian Romans then changed it to Fara, when in the early Middle Ages Croats changed into Hvar.

Paklenski otoci, at the front of the town of Hvar – (Hvar’s isles) are a group of some twenty islets and cliffs.

This magnificent archipelago represents an unforgettable experience for yachtsmen and deep-sea divers.
